Arul Murugan was born and brought up in Maraimalainagar near Chennai in a middle-class family. He started learning Indian Classical Violin at the age 5 under Shri. Ravi Kumar and later on under Kumari A. Kanyakumari. At a very young age, he started performing in various music concerts across south India and has also won several prizes in the competitions held at The Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts etc. He started learning Western Classical Piano at the age of 10 from Trinity College of Music, London. He did his schooling at Shri Anand Jain Vidhyala, Tambaram and became a qualified Chartered Accountant in the year 2008.
Corelli wrote the background music for Pisaasu; in the film he also played the violin in the song “Nathi pogum koozhangal payanam”. Corelli was nominated in the Best Background Score category at the 2015 Vijay Awards for Pisaasu.
