As lead author of the Dutch Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) Boot presented in 2016 a report to the Dutch government on the balance between society and the financial sector, emphasizing the need to reduce the vulnerability of society towards financial instabilities.

Between 2011 and 2015, He was a member of his Inaugural Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB). He was the president of the European Finance Association in 2008 as well as the president of the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS) from 2012 to 2014. From 2006 until the beginning of 2019 he served as president of the Bank Council of the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). Between 2008 and 2015, the bank was a member of the Quality Assessment Committees for business administration programs at The Israeli Ministry of Education. From 2004 until 2014, the crown member (Kroonlid) in the Dutch Social-Economic Council (SER). In 2014, he was a chair of an Dutch government committee which designed an updated high-school curriculum that focuses on Business Economics (M&O). In 2003, he established ACLE, which is the Amsterdam Center for Law & Economics (ACLE) that is an inter-disciplinary research center that is linked with the faculties of law and economics within Amsterdam’s University of Amsterdam.
