The year 1991 was the time that Fioretos received the PhD from the Department of Comparative Literature with The Critical Moment which is a deconstructivist study of the works of Friedrich Holderlin, Walter Benjamin along with Paul Celan. He has held academic positions at Johns Hopkins University, Rutgers University as well as the Free University in Berlin. Since 2010, he’s an instructor of Aesthetics at Sodertorn University College in Stockholm.
Since 1991 Fioretos released his debut book that contained prose poetry titled Delandets bok (The Book of Giving). Since then, he’s published numerous fiction works which include Vanitasrutinerna (The Vanitas Routines) (1998), Stockholm Noir (2000), Sanningen om Sascha Knisch (The Truth about Sascha Knisch) (2002) as well as Den sista greken (The Last Greek) (2009). The novel was nominated to Sweden’s highest-respected literary prize which is The August Prize, as was his novel from 2015 Mary. In 2009, in the winter, Den sista greken was awarded the Gleerups Literary Prize. Then in 2010.’s spring, he won the Novel Prize of Sveriges Radio was also conferred on Mary in the year 2016. Between 2003 between 2003 and 2007 Fioretos served as Cultural Advisor for the Swedish Embassy in Berlin. Fioretos’s work on Sweden’s most popular radio program, Sommar (“Summer”) Self-portraits of Swedes well-known and unnoticed which aired on the 16th of July 2010.
