Anton Vamplew is one of the most popular and richest Astronomer who was born on February 6, 1966 in Rainham, England, United Kingdom. Anton Vamplew, (born 6 February 1966 from Rainham, Kent) is an English amateur astronomer, writer and lecturer, as well as a media presenter on the subject.

In November 1996, he was invited to write and produce the Universe Special for the BBC World Service youth program, Megamix. Then he became a regular host of the show (along together with Nikita Gulhane as well as Brenda Emmanus) until it was ended in March 1999. In the course of his time, he created an entire series of specials titled The Captain Cosmos Guide to the end of the World.

Also on the World Service, Vamplew wrote and presented a 10-part astronomy series: Captain Cosmos’ Galactic Guide which was broadcast twice in 1998, plus he was the resident astronomy expert from March 1999 to March 2000 on the youth programme, The Edge.

In 1999 Vamplew joined the Royal Observatory Greenwich working as a presenter in their original Caird Planetarium. Once the redevelopment of the Observatory site began in late 2004 he joined the team that would equip the new, then to be named, Peter Harrison Planetarium. He left his newer role of Planetarium Producer and the Observatory itself in May 2007.

From March 1993 until July 2002, he traveled to schools as well as museums and colleges, providing talks on Astronomy and space to children as well as adults in the Astrodome inflatable planetarium. He also was involved in writing the programs.

Vamplew was a member of the Mid-Kent Astronomical Society in 1979 He later became the chairman and the editor of their quarterly magazine, Pegasus.

Vamplew’s first appearance on the radio came on BBC Radio Kent in 1986 as Halley was about to approach the Comet. The same station also hosted Vamplew was soon able to create his Astro-persona “Captain Cosmos”, presenting the monthly live call-in. The show was later followed by an astronomy show named The Essential Guide to the Night Sky which was on for eight months.

On 5 November 1997, he made his first of 30 regular appearances on the BBC Children’s programme, Blue Peter. For a time Vamplew became known as the Blue Peter Astronomer and undertook two overseas assignments to the telescopes of La Palma and Hawaii.
