Anthony was born forth child to James “Jim” Daniher and Edna Daniher (nee Erwin) on 21 January 1963 in West Wyalong Base Hospital. Anthony was a student at St Joseph’s Catholic School, Ungarie for his primary schooling before moving into Ungarie Central School from the time his tenth year following which he went into TAFE located in Wagga Wagga.

Joe, Anthony’s younger son Joe has been snatched up in 2012 by Essendon in 2012 as part of the father-son rule. He made his debut with the Bombers on June 7 on a Friday, 2013.

Between 1981 and 1994, Anthony was a player in South Melbourne/Sydney and Essendon as part of the VFL/AFL playing in 233 games, and at the Grand Final with Essendon, where was lost by Collingwood. Anthony also set a precedent with his brothers as they became the first group of brothers to be part of one team during the State of Origin match and during a home and away game. After the 1994 season that Anthony was able to retire as the only remaining player of the AFL to have played for South Melbourne.

He played with the Northern Riverina Football League (NRFL) on Saturdays as well as playing in the school rugby league carnivals. It was with the NRFL that Anthony received numerous best and most prestigious awards prior to moving to Wagga Wagga to attend TAFE in which he would take part in Turvey Park in the South West District Football League. In 1980, each of the South Melbourne and Essendon Football Clubs met with Anthony to sign his signature. Anthony ultimately decided to sign in the team of South Melbourne, who were moving to Sydney at the time.
