Anthony Arnett Biography

Anthony Arnett is one of the most popular and richest Martial Artist who was born on January 22, 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Anthony Arnett grew up on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland, in the 1960s in the beginning. When he was just 8 year old, the grandfather who was a green Beret taught him to fight. The neighborhood was divided by streets, with each block representing a distinct area. Row and townhomes that were high- density meant that families lived over each other and children from every block formed gangs to defend their own. While Arnett had been taught the art of Kung Fu by his uncle but he was hesitant to apply his skills to fight in the street. From the age of 8 until 14 he would hid it because when the time came to kick, it was thought to be what girls do such as scratch, kick and flail. The gang members viewed those who fought with a weapon like that as “sissies” so Arnett kept his martial arts secret. In 1975 Arnett was a fan of the popular film Five Fingers of Death one of the very first martial arts films that gained mass popularity in America. The release of the film was closely followed by the revolutionary films by Bruce Lee. Then, suddenly, we knew Kung Fu was cool.

In 1996, he finished the three-volume video series on Kung Fu at Arnett Sport with the Grandmaster William Cheung and himself. In 1998, he launched his first private studio only for one on one lessons at Jacksonville, Florida. Arnett began promoting tournaments and training camps in 1999. In 2002, Arnett established a third training school located at Orange Park, Florida, and produced a variety of DVDs and CD-ROM guides to training for Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu and Arnett Sport Kung Fu.

In 2005 Arnett became the Official Martial Arts Instructor for NFL Football Team Jacksonville Jaguars, their strength and conditioning coach Mark Asanovich praised and thanked Arnett for his work with the team he wrote in a letter; the training was much liked by the players, well designed and well run and that he would continue to support Arnett Sport Kung Fu in future relationships

Arnett’s personal training of Maurice Novoa in 2012 in Australia and 2013 in Jacksonville lead to Novoa running a successful Sport and Street Wing Chun Academy resulting in Novoa’s students winning in martial arts tournaments.

He started the first Wing Chun School within Maryland He co-opened another school in 1983, and in 1986, he established his first Traditional Wing Chun School located in Georgia and then opened his second Wing Chun School at Augusta, Georgia, in 1987.

Arnett began participating at Point Tournaments in 1974 then in 1977, he was the division champion at local tournaments. In 1984, he became an East Coast Grand Champion then went on to become Grand Champion in Fighting and Forms when he competed with Georgia during 1989. In 1993, he became Grand Champion in Continuous Sparring for the third year in consecutive years. Arnett was able to keep his Division Championship title for 6 years consecutively and was awarded his Division Championship title in the Tri State Circuit.

In 2000 Arnett won numerous championships including the Overall Championship in the National Arts League for Forms Demonstration, Weapons Demonstration and Most Student Competitors. Arnett was awarded NKKU Ultimate Grand Champion for 2001 in Forms, Weapons, and Fighting in the Masters Division and also Grand Champion in the North Florida Martial Arts Association.
