Anouk Teeuwe was born April 8, 1975 within The Hague, Netherlands. As an teen, she played with drugs, and ended up in numerous care facilities after she ran off from home around the age of fourteen. Anouk’s passion for music was inspired by her mother whom she knew as a blues performer. Anouk presented her first performance when she was just 15 and performed at parties and weddings with the group Shotgun Wedding. She began going to her first class at the Rotterdam Conservatory in 1994 but was unable to attend two years after. The same time her manager and husband Edwin Jansen introduced Anouk to Golden Earring frontman Barry Hay. Hay believed she was a potential and offered to write a couple of tunes for her. One of them is “Mood Indigo”; written by Hay and other Golden Earring member George Kooymans.

Anouk got married to manager Edwin Jansen until 1998. She was married to Remon Stotijn (aka The Anonymous Mis) the singer of the reggae/rap group Postmen on the 16th of March 2004. Stotijn has three children: Son Benjahmin Kingsley (b. 18 April 2002), son Elijah Jeramiah (b. 5 Dec. 2003) and daughter Phoenix Ray (b. 3 June 2005). On May 3, 2008 Anouk as well as Remon announced an “harmonious” mutual separation. In 2010, Anouk was blessed with her fourth child, a boy called Jesiah Dox. Sion Jethro, her son Sion Jethro was born in June of 2014. In June of 2016 she gave birth to sixth child, a baby girl named Jelizah Rose, along with her current partner an ex-basketball player and mixed martial artist Dominique Schemmekes.

Anouk’s album To Get Her Together was released in the Netherlands in May 2011. On 28 February 2011 Anouk placed one of the new tracks on YouTube named “Killer Bee”. The first single of the album is called “Down & Dirty” and came out in April. On 27 June, Anouk released her single “I’m a Cliché”. On 17 September 2011 “Save Me” was released as third single from the album. The fourth single is “What Have You Done”. Anouk performed at the GelreDome in Arnhem for her To Get Her Together Tour on 8 and 11 March 2012.

Anouk first revealed taking part in the festival on Facebook on 17 October 2012, after negotiations with broadcaster TROS. Her song was officially revealed on 11 March 2013. Anouk performed “Birds” in the first semi-final on 14 May 2013, where she progressed to the final on 18 May 2013. Anouk reached the 9th place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden on 18 May 2013 with her song “Birds”. The Dutch broadly perceived her result to be a major achievement, as it was the best ranking for the Netherlands in 14 years and the first time in 9 years that any Dutch artist even made it to the finals. Anouk wrote the 2015 Dutch entry called “Walk Along”, performed by Trijntje Oosterhuis along with Swedish songwriter Tobias Karlsson.

In March of 2001 she released a second album called Lost Tracks, which contained Acoustic versions, B-sides and B-sides of older songsas well as various collaborations K’s Choice singer Sam Bettens and The Anonymous Mis. The album was nominated for with the Popprijs Award in 2001. Then, in November of 2002 her album Graduated Fool came out. It was the biggest rock album Anouk has released up to this point. Anouk was awarded a Golden Harp in 2003. The next full-length album was titled Hotel New York (2004) and produced four songs: “Girl”, “Lost”, “Jerusalem” and “One Word”. In 2006, she received an award from the 3FM award for the top Dutch female vocalist. In 2007 Anouk came out with Who’s Your Momma, recorded with producer Glen Ballard. The debut track, “Good God” was successful, and later became an option to play in the game Guitar Hero World Tour in 2008. In 2009, she released her debut album For Bitter or Worse. The single “Three Days in a Row” made it to the top spot on the Dutch charts.
