Anna Gerasimova (Russian: Anna Georgievna Georgievna Grasimova born 19 April, 1961 in Moscow) Also called Umka (Russian: Umka ) is an Russian rock singer and songwriter. She is the founder of the duo Umka along with Bronevik. Also, she is a writer literary translator, researcher of literature and traveler. She is also a prominent figure within the Russian hippie movement.
Her most notable translated works are the work of Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums (1994) and Big Sur (2002). She has also translated many autobiographical books as well as interviews with British as well as American rock stars: Keith Richards, Iggy Pop, Frank Zappa, Maureen Tucker and others.
Since 1998 about 20 albums were released on CDs. Umka and her band travel extensively; they toured in many cities of the former USSR and many countries aboard (USA, United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, Netherlands). The total number of published songs is above 250; many songs were never released.
In 1988, she had stopped writing songs, and changed to translations and philological works and in 1989, she submitted the results of her Ph.D. dissertation about OBERIU literary group. In 1995, she resumed singing and songwriting. She began performing with other musicians at several concerts, and also recorded a number of her own albums. The band eventually gained its moniker Bronevichok (“Small armored Vehicle” and in 2005 their name changed again into Bronevik, “Armored Vehicle”).
