She was an Nieman Fellow on Journalism (August 2013 until April 2014.) from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Then, she researched how changes occur within closed society. She received the Shorenstein Journalism Award from Stanford University. “Fifield exemplifies how crucial it is to get the complexities of Asia right and the profound role of journalism in shaping public and decision maker approaches to our counterparts in the region,” the Stanford University said.

This was the first time the Washington Post had published in the Korean language.
