Bentley is a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, but was raised within Bergh Apton, Norfolk. She started fencing in the year of 11 after her coach Andrew Sowerby from the Norfolk Academy of Fencing took part in an “come and try” session at the Norwich High School for Girls. She was a student at The British School in the Netherlands and left in 1999.
