Devries who is a right-handed player is from Bree, the Flemish city Bree. She was a student in Antwerp at the age of 12 and, by the age of 15, was making her debut with the Belgium Fed Cup team. It was her match with Steffi Graf, in the opening match of the 1986 Fed Cup was the first appearance by the West German in the competition. She was part Belgia’s World Youth Cup winning side in 1986.
