Huber was born in Bruchsal in Baden-Wurttemberg. She began playing tennis at seven following her introduction to the sport by her father Edgar. In junior competitions she took home in the junior younger players in the German Championships in 1986, the under-14s in 1987 as well as an under-16s tournament in 1988 as well as the European Championships in 1989. She also made it to the semifinals at the Wimbledon junior tournament in the year 1990.
Huber was the first player to make the Grand Slam tournament debut at the 1990 Australian Open, a year before she completed her high school.
