She began competing professionally for the IAAF in 1998, when she competed in the 1500 meter female race in Nairobi on the 10th of May 1998. She won the race by clocking four minutes and 19.2 seconds. She then took part in the 800m female outdoor race in Kampala Uganda on 19 July the same year. She took the race home too, running 2.59 minutes 7.9 seconds.
Anitha completed her first IAAF recorded 5,000m in 2002. On 13 June 2002, she took part in the Boras races in Sweden and took the race home. The time was 16 minutes and 19.46 seconds. Then she competed at Norway’s Oslo ExxonMobil Bislett Games in Norway and did poorly and finished 17th in sixteen minutes and 58.26 seconds. It was her final race of. Her first 10 kilometers race was in September 2007 in Hamburg Alsterlauf, Germany, where she finished first, clocking 31 minutes and 11 seconds. The first was the Oelder Sparkassen-City-Lauf competition, which she finished in 33 minutes and 11 seconds, whereas the second was Hamburg Alsterlauf competition, both of which were in Germany. She injured herself just before finishing a race in the Great Eastern Women in Singapore in 2008 in which she had a comfortable lead. This forced her to stumble through the finished line, and she was quickly taken away for medical attention soon thereafter. On 27 June 2007, Anitha participated in the Ostrava Golden Spike in Czech Republic. She was the 8th to finish the race and clocked 16:08.51. She would stop racing in this category for more than 10 years, returning in December, 01 2018, to set a personal best of 16.00 minutes.

After registering positive performances throughout her participation in the 10 kilometer races Germany, Anitha graduated to the 15 kilometre race, debuting in the Kerzers Lauf competition in Switzerland.
