Angella Taylor-Issajenko Biography

Angella Taylor-Issajenko is one of the most popular and richest Sprinter who was born on September 28, 1958 in Jamaica. Angella was born in Jamaica on the 28th of September 1958. Her breakthrough performance was during the 1979 Pan Am Games, where she won a bronze medal in the 100 m race and a silver medal in the 200 m. She also record-breaking new records for the nation in the 200 m and 100 m of 11.20 as well as 22.80 respectively. Despite Canada’s refusal to participate in the 1988 Olympic Games in Moscow, she was a dominant post-Olympic athlete in August of the year

1980. She won numerous events, and coming 2nd in 100 meters to Marlies Gohr and second in the 200m race behind Barbel Wockel at the last event in Zurich. She was the 200-meter top athlete during the Liberty Bell Classic (which was an alternative option to banned Olympics). Her national records were lowered down to 11.12 for the 100m and 22.55 to win the 200 meters by the final season of 1981.

Note in 1987, at the World Indoor Championships, Issajenko completed the race in 7.08sec to take home the silver medal, which was beaten by Dutch sprinter Nelli Cooman. In 1989, following her admission to long-term substance abuse during the Dubin inquiry The IAAF took away her medal and elevated Bulgarian Anelia Nuneva into the silver medal as well as the fellow Canadian Angela Bailey to Bronze.Note that at the World Cup in 1979 and 1981, Taylor-Issajenko represented the Americas continent.

Taylor-Issajenko was a part of the doping regime of George Astaphan, the physician who supplied Ben Johnson with stanazolol. After Issajenko’s training partner Johnson tested positive for stanozolol in 1988, she testified in the Dubin Inquiry and gave a detailed account of widespread substance abuse in athletics which included her reading from her diary. She later told her story to writers Martin O’Malley and Karen O’Reilly for her biography Running Risks which was a detailed tell-all of her sprinting experiences and her dealings with performance-enhancing drugs.

Today Issajenko is a single mother of four grown children. As of 2008, she works full-time with learning-disabled grade school students and has returned to track and field as a coach based out of the city of Toronto’s track and field center on the York University campus.

Angella Taylor-Issajenko CM (nee Taylor; born on September 28th 1958) is a Canadian coach and former sprinter. She was awarded the Olympic silver medal at the 4 x 100 meters relay at Los Angeles 1984. In the Commonwealth Games she won seven medals including the 100 metres winning title at Brisbane 1982, and the 200m title in Edinburgh 1986.

Angella Taylor won her 1982 Commonwealth 100m champion at 11.00 and set an official Commonwealth record and a Games record. Issajenko broke the world 50 m record indoors with a 6.06 clocking in Ottawa in 1987. In the summer of 1987, she again broke the national record for 100 m with a time of 10.97 and finished fifth at the World Championships.
