Bonet was born the 13th of May in 1976 in Sydney The oldest (elder of two twins) from five kids of James Patrick Bennett, an IT/Finance Manager, and his Mother Geraldine Louise Bennett, a specialist in physiotherapy for children suffering from disabilities that affect their neurodevelopment and Mental Health Facilities. The father of the child was Catholic and her mother was a member of the Church of England, but changed to Catholicism at the age of Angelena was twelve years old. Angelena decided to go by the Confirmation name of ‘Angela’ that would play a major influence on her life for many years after. Despite her Catholic education, Bonet is a daily meditation and yoga practitioner. She believes that she is more spiritual.

Angelena is not married, however, she was engaged for only three days following her stay with her producer and musician her partner for five years, Erick Deeby. Deeby was killed when in August 2007, he had a major heart attack at home , and passed away inside her arms. Deeby was placed on life support while in a coma for 6 days, but passed away on the 29th of August 2007. She described the experience in terms of “soul shattering, but writing the music was cathartic and had a deep healing effect on her heart”, however it took several years to get her back on track back and to sing without crying.
