Angela Coughlan is one of the most popular and richest Swimmer who was born on October 4, 1952 in London, England, United Kingdom. Angela Denise Coughlan, O.Ont. (October 4 1952 from October 4, 1952 until June 14 September 14, 2009) was an O.Ont. Canadian swimming champion. In the height of her competitive swimming career between 1968 until 1971 she was the top Canadian female freestyler, winning every time during freestyle competitions at Canadian competitions during that timeperiod, in addition to breaking a world record as well as thirteen Canadian records. As an athlete on the Canadian national swimming team she was a part of the 4×100-metre freestyle and 4×100 metre Medley relay teams. She also received both team and individual relay medals during the 1967 Pan American Games, the 1968 Olympics as well as The 1970 Commonwealth Games and the 1971 Pan American Games. She was named the Canadian Female Athlete the Year in the year 1970 after quitting competitive swimming in 1972 , at 19 years of age. A portion of her time after competition was spent as a swimming coach and mentor for young swimmers.

She worked for the majority of the 1970s as a swimmer coach before transitioning to massage therapist. She was a frequent participant at swim meets that were competitive throughout the following 20 years. She was married two times and had three daughters.

At the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, she earned a gold medal anchoring the 4×100-metre medley relay, and three silvers (4×100-metre freestyle relay, 100-metre freestyle, 200-metre freestyle).

Coughlan retired from competitive swimming in 1972 while still a teenager. That same year, her home city of Burlington opened a new swimming facility attached to her high school that included an indoor 6-lane 25-metre swimming pool. It was named the Angela Coughlan Indoor Pool, an honour that embarrassed the shy 19-year-old.

In the 1968 Summer Olympics held in Mexico City, she swam in four events on her own in addition to relays. Despite suffering from stomach-related illness she was able to make it to the finals of each of the four freestyle events she placed 7th overall in the 100 freestyle, 200 and 400 meters sixth in the freestyle 800 metres. Coughlan took home the bronze medal as the third-place Canadian group in the female 4×100-metre freestyle relay along with fellow teammates Marilyn Corson, Elaine Tanner and Marion Lay.
