The new elections were scheduled to establish the newly formed Tunisian Parliament and to draft a constitution for the newly-formed democratic system. After a few months of returning in Tunisia, Yahyaoui ran in the 2011 Constituent Assembly election as an independent candidate to draw attention about the importance of the constitution debate. Her campaign’s platform utilized numerous media outlets to call on the lack of attention the political parties paid to the creation of the proposed Tunisian Constitution.
Yahyaoui founded the NGO Al Bawsala (translated to “The Compass” in Arabic) in 2012., to monitor the work of the Constituent Assembly. In the following years, Al Bawsala became one of the most prominent NGOs in the Middle East. Al Bawsala’s use of technology for social progress has been recognized by many awards from international organizations such as the World Summit Award.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution became a much debated theme in the business and policy circles after the forum. Multiple books were published on the subject, and on October 10, 2016 the World Economic Forum announced the opening of its new Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in San Francisco.
In the exile zone, Amira Yahyaoui cofounded the Nhar 3la 3mmar protest against censorship which took place in numerous cities across the world in May of 2010. The protest was planned to increase awareness of the human rights freedom of expression issue and, even though it was never intended as a protest against the authorities but it was the most popular campaign to protect the freedom to express oneself in Tunisia. The event was closely watched by Tunisian authorities, while many activists were detained.
