In 1991, Larrieux met Mantronix member Bryce Wilson at Rondor Music. Wilson who was seeking to start his own career as a musician and producer was looking for someone to collaborate with. Wilson and Larrieux began producing demos in the same time and then came up with the band Groove Theory. Their first release, Groove Theory, spawned numerous radio hits, including “Tell Me”, “Keep Tryin'””Keep Tryin'” and “Baby Luv”. The duo was also featured in numerous motion picture soundtracks that had a great success like the 1996 film Sunset Park and 1997’s Love Jones. Larrieux was who was pursuing a solo career was not involved in the group’s second album, which was eventually relegated to The Answer. Makeda Davis would take over as the group’s lead singer in 1999 and remained in the role until Groove Theory officially disbanded in 2001. Larrieux stated of his decision to leave the groupthat “You have to make a bunch of compromises and .. you know, I just couldn’t go on forever. We wanted different things and a combination of that and the label wanting different things from us just made me decide that it was time to move on.”
