He was given the Silver Lotus (Rajat Kamal) for the best cinematography in a non-feature films in the 63rd National Film Awards by the president of India for his documentary about fantasy “Benaras: The Unexplored Attachments”. The second feature film of his, ‘Khyanikaa The Lost Idea’ was a feature film. The Lost Idea’ featured as the sole Odia film that was part of the Indian Panorama section of 48th International Film Festival of India 2017.
Amartya’s second feature film ‘Khyanikaa – The Lost Idea’ screened at over 25 international film festivals and across 14 countries. He won the state award for the Best Editing for Khyanikaa at the 29th Odisha State Film awards 2019.
Capital I Amartya’s first feature film, is the first feature film that is independent from Odisha. It was selected for the competition between six films in the third South Asian Alternative Film Festival Paris in February of 2015. 20th International Film Festival of Kerala 2015, Delhi International Film Festival 2015 8. Bengaluru International Film Festival 2016 11. International Film Festival of Thrissur the 11th Habitat Festival Film, and various other festivals. It’s one of the very first Indian film to be purchased by the Italian-based distribution and sales company “The Open Reel’. The film will be broadcast on the Polish-based television channel ‘Filmbox’.

The fantasy short film “Shiuli: in the search of my goddess!’ was shown at various festivals like Leiria film festival at Portugal, Staffordshire Festival of Performing Arts in England, Vagrant Film Festival in Belarus, Festival Alto Vicentino in Italy, South Texas Underground Film Festival in the USA, Simultan Film Festival in Romania, ProFire Film Festival in Scotland and ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival 2014 in Berlin, Germany. “Swargadwar – in the search of heaven’ the silent film of his was selected for the 10th Noussa International Film Festival in Greece as well as at the third Electric Lantern Film Festival, 2014 in London. The documentary that explores the experimental nature of fantasy – “Benaras – The unexplored Attachments exploring the heart of the city of Varanasi was screened during the Sahar International Short Film Festival in the UK and was then followed by North American premiere at International Film Festival of South Asia, Canada and US Premiere at the Windsor Independent Film Festival. The film was later presented at international festivals across the USA, Lativia and Canada. The film won the Best Film prize at Seventh International Short Tourism Film Festival of Amorgos in Greece and was awarded 5 prizes – Best Screenplay Best Cinematography and Best Editing. It also won Best Music, and Best Producer/Production Team at the 9th NoHu International Short Film Festival 2016 in New Jersey. Amartya’s most recent short story “Hoyto Kobitar Jonyo (In Poetic Hues) was selected to be component of the Short Film Corner at 68th Festival de Cannes, 2015 and was awarded an award for Best Film award at the Moab International Film Festival, Utah, USA and Best Script award at the Sylhet Film Festival, Bangladesh.
After making two feature films ‘Capital I’ and ‘Khyanikaa’ in Odia, he made his third feature film ‘Runanubandha – The HE without HIM’ in his mother tongue, Bengali and shot in the city he was born and brought up in – Kolkata. The film was one of the three Indian films to be selected in the International competition of 24th Kolkata International Film Festival 2018, followed by official selections at 11th Bengaluru International Film Festival and 14th International Film Festival of Thrissur.
