Amarjit Kaypee (born 2 October 1960 in Jalandhar, Punjab) is an Indian former cricketer. He was predominantly left-handed, and also had the distinction of having the most runs most runs scored during the Ranji Trophy, India’s most prestigious first-class cricket championship in India for a few years prior to when Amol Muzumdar broke the title in 2009. But despite his achievements however, he wasn’t chosen to in the Indian National team. a pity shared with the man whom he broke.
He continued to play consistently excellently for Haryana throughout the years, and even played as a captain for 31 games. But he was never selected for the North Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, playing two matches in the seasons 1991-92 and 1992-93. This meant that the player was frequently left out by national team’s selection committee and thus never making an appearance in the national team.
In April 2006 Kaypee was part of the Indian veterans team that visited Pakistan to play a limited-overs 4 match series against a Pakistan Veteran’s XI, organised by the Pakistan Seniors Cricket Board. The Indian side was led by former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin.
Kaypee’s best-performing season was 1990-91. He scored 940 runs during the Ranji Trophy, helping Haryana to win their first and, until today, the only Ranji Trophy title. He was the highest run-scorer during that competition and was also named by the ICC as Indian Cricket Cricketer of the Year. In the following year He had another dazzling performance in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 812 runs.

Kaypee was a first class player when he began his career in Punjab in the 1980-81 season, playing his first game with Jammu and Kashmir. After a couple of decent seasons with Punjab and then he transferred to Haryana in the years 1986-87. This was where Kaypee spent the remainder of his career, and also where he had a lot of success.
In the 1990s , Kaypee had an experience playing for Smethwick and Streetly Cricket Club, as their overseas player.
In October 2000, Kaypee retired from cricket. He finished his career with a record aggregate of 7623 runs in the Ranji Trophy including 27 centuries. Post retirement kaypee was appointed as the head coach of the Haryana team for the 2008-09 season. Kaypee was also a match referee for the BCCI for a number of seasons.
