Ally Maxwell is one of the most popular and richest Scottish footballer who was born on February 16, 1965 in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand. Alistair Espie Maxwell, a former professional footballer and coach from Scotland, was born 16 February 1965. He is currently the youth coach at SC Del Sol Soccer Club, USA. He has previously played for Motherwell Rangers, Dundee United and Motherwell. He also coached Greenock Morton as well as US side Sereno Golden Eagles.

Maxwell moved to Dundee United for PS250,000 in 1995. He spent three seasons at Tannadice. However, the majority of his games were in his first campaign. After an injury, he lost his place to Sieb Daijkstra again, so he didn’t play in the second. After two seasons at Tannadice, Maxwell moved to Greenock Morton where he became a coach and manager.

A UEFA ‘A’ licensed professional coach, he now resides in the USA. He currently works as the goalkeeping coach at SC Del Sol in Arizona, where he has been since 2008.

On 1 November 2019, it was announced that Maxwell was to be inducted into the Motherwell F.C. Hall of Fame.

Maxwell was not awarded a cap despite being present in many Scotland squads. Maxwell did however play in the first part of a Scotland international against Wales in Wrexham, 1994.

Maxwell was born in Hamilton. He spent the 1987-88 season at Motherwell on loan. After that, he became the Fir Park’s first-choice goalkeeper. In 1991, Maxwell won the Scottish Cup. He played the entire second half, plus thirty minutes extra, with broken ribs and a ruptured stomach. Maxwell, despite his injuries, managed to tip Maurice Malpas’ fierce goal-bound shot of Dundee United defender Maurice Malpas over the bar in the final two minutes to give Motherwell a 4-3 win. Due to a contract dispute between Tommy McLean and Maxwell, he was not able to play in the following season. Instead, Billy Thomson and Sieb Dijkstra were brought in to replace him.

Maxwell was on loan in England with Bolton Wanderers and moved to Rangers to play for a PS300,000. He was initially backup to Andy Goram, but he also played frequently when Goram was injured. In 1993, he won a Scottish League Cup winner’s medal. Then, in 1994, he picked up a runners-up medal for the Scottish Cup. This was revenge for Maxwell’s heroics in the 1994 Scottish Cup Final. In each of his three seasons with Ibrox, Maxwell played enough league games to earn medals. These were part of the club’s “9 in a Row” run.

He was briefly a goalkeeping coach at Hamilton Academical, after managing Morton for half a season in 2001.
