Silverman graduated in 1990 from Buchholz High School in Gainesville Florida and 1994 from Yale University. Silverman has also written for Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. For her work on these shows, she has been nominated for several Emmys. She also won two Emmys for her work in The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Silverman was a Yale University student in the 1990s. She was involved in one college’s improv comedy groups, The Ex!t Players. She moved to Chicago after graduating from Yale University in 1994 with a Humanities degree. She was a performer at Chicago’s iO Theater, then known as ImprovOlympic. Later she performed at Boom Chicago in Amsterdam.
Silverman was a member on The Daily Show’s Writing Staff and won an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award. She joined Late Night in 2002. After the show was made into a series, Silverman moved to The Colbert Report in 2005. Silverman worked mainly off-camera on the Report, but she did occasionally make an appearance on the show as an audience member and as “Your Soulmate”, in the abridged audiobook I Am America (And so Can You!). She co-wrote the book. She was awarded the NYWIFT Muse Award 2009, which recognizes women in television and film. In August 2009, she announced her resignation from The Colbert Report.
