After a strong performance in the ABL, de San Miguel signed a minor-league contract with Baltimore Orioles in 2012. After a strong showing in the ABL, de San Miguel split his time between A+ Frederick and AAA Norfolk. He slugged.239/.331/.399 with 6 HRs in 63 games. In 2013, he was invited to Spring Training by the Orioles. He spent the entire season at A+ Frederick, hitting.240/.366/.421 and 10HRs in 65 matches.
In 2014, he spent one season as the starting catcher for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He batted .203/.289/.332 with 5HR in 61 games for the Blue Crabs.
In 2015, he returned to the Twins organization, but appeared in only 3 games for Rochester, the Twins’ AAA affiliate.
De San Miguel was the starting pitcher for the Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League from 2010 to 2015. He joined the Melbourne Aces in 2016. After attending South Fremantle Senior High School, Perth, Western Australia, he was added to the Minnesota Twins team as an undrafted-free agent on August 18, 2004. He was an organizational catcher and he split his time between the Twins organization from Rookie League to AAA until he was released by the Twins in 2011.
He was a provisional player in the Australian national baseball team’s 2009 World Baseball Classic. Australia was eliminated from the tournament’s first round and placed 12th out of 16 teams, with a record 1-2. De San Miguel didn’t play in the tournament.
In 2013, he returned with the team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, for which Australia automatically qualified. Australia finished in last place out of sixteen teams, having lost three games in the first round to Chinese Taipei, South Korea, and the Netherlands. De San Miguel went 0-for-3 with a strikeout against Korea, and replaced Matt Kennelly late in the game against the Netherlands, striking out in his only appearance.
