She broke the previous record of 17 year 100 days set at the 1992 Summer Olympics by Danyon Loader. Nico Porteous, 16 years and 91 days later, broke the record. After being selected, she was the youngest flag bearer in New Zealand for the 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies.

She won the slopestyle competition at the US Open in Vail (Colorado) in March

She represented New Zealand at the 2018 Winter Olympics, Pyeongchang (South Korea). She was the second New Zealander to win the Winter Olympic bronze medal in women’s big-air, after Annelise Colberger, who won silver in women’s slalom in 1992 Winter Olympics. She was the first woman to land a switch backside900 in big air, i.e. Competitors saw her riding in an unnatural stance, performing 2.5 rotations in backside direction, and she was unnaturally upright. She finished in 13th place in the women’s slopestyle.
