Rahman was a touring musician with Jerry Dammers’ The Spatial AKA Orchestra from 2009 to 2012. She brought Sun Ra to new audiences. She has also been a member of bands that include Danny Thompson (bassist), Martha Wainwright (singer), and Courtney Pine (saxophonist).
Rahman composed the piano score for the 2020 touring production of The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel.
Apart from her work with her own bands, Rahman continues to record and perform (both internationally and in the UK) with a variety of artists. They include: Clark Tracey’s New Quintet, Courtney Pine, Soothsayers, Jerry Dammers’ Spatial AKA Orchestra, Keziah Jones (2003/2004 European tour); David Walcott (2003 Festival in Barbados); Mekaal Hazan (2001 tour to Pakistan). Rahman discovered Bengali music in 2002 when her father was admitted to hospital. She had transferred some cassette tapes from 1950s Bengali music to CDs so that he could listen while he recovered. Rahman was intrigued by the sounds, and Rahman’s subsequent trips to Bangladesh enabled Rahman to discover more about Rahman’s background through music.
Rahman was sought out by music producer Paul Vlcek to play with George Mraz. In July 2013, their album Unison was released. Rahman’s first solo piano album, Dreamland, was recorded in 2015 and released by Manushi.
