Zhang Zhijun is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on February 1, 1953 in Nantong, China. Zhang Zhijun (Chinese pronunciation: Zhang Zhi Jun; pinyin: Zhang Zhijun; born 1 February 1953) was a politician and diplomat of the People’s Republic of China. He was the Minister of Taiwan Affairs Office, State Council from 17 March 2013 to 21 April 2018. Since April 2018, he is the President of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits.

On 11 February 2014, Zhang met with Wang Yu-chi in Nanjing, the first high- level government-to-government official contact between the two sides since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949. The meeting was held at Nanjing’s Purple Palace hotel. Both Wang and Wang agreed to establish a regular, direct communication channel between them for future engagements under the 1992 Consensus. They agreed to find a solution to Taiwanese students studying on the mainland. They also discussed pragmatically setting up ARATS and SEF offices on each other’s territories and studying the possibility of allowing visitors to detained people once these offices are established.

Zhang visited Taiwan on 25-28 June 2014.
