Zhan Xugang is one of the most popular and richest Weightlifter who was born on May 15, 1974 in Kaihua, Zhejiang, China. Zhan Xugang (Chinese Zhan Xu Gang; born May 15, 1974, Kaihua County in Zhejiang) was a former male Chinese weightlifter who later became a politician and won the 1996 Olympics Games. He is the first Chinese weightlifter ever to win consecutive Olympics.

Zhan was promoted to vice-president of Zhejiang Sports of the Career Technical College in 2012 and became the director for seven departments. He was a committee member at his home in July 2015 and was then proposed to become the deputy governor for three counties.

Zhan was one the torchbearers at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony in 2008.

Zhan Xugang, a ten-year-old weightlifter from Kaihua County Sports School was recruited. Zhan was selected to the Zhejiang Provincial Team in 1987 after he set a national junior record. He was a national junior weightlifter and was awarded the title of “an outstanding Asian Junior weightlifter”. In 1993, he was promoted to the senior team. Zhan Xugang broke three World Records and won the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. The International Weightlifting Federation introduced new weightlifting standards in 1998. Zhan Xugang was the first to enter the 77kg class. Zhan was challenged by the rise in competition. Zhan was fourth at the Sydney Olympic Games 2000. He weighed 160 kg. He was able, in spite of the difficult circumstances, to lift and jerk 207.5kg, a personal record. He was able to lift 367.5kg and won gold. He failed to make the three attempted snatch attempts in his division of men’s 77kg and didn’t finish the 2004 Games. He announced his retirement shortly afterward.

Zhan Xugang was the deputy commander for weightlifting, judo, and taekwondo in Zhejiang Province. He was appointed director of the Career Technical College’s sports department in 2005.
