In 2012, she was the World Sprint Champion and set world records in the sprint combination as well as the 500m. Heather Richardson held the sprint combination world record until she beat it in January 2013. Lee Sang-hwa set the world record for 500 metres in November 2013. This time of 36.94 seconds was the Chinese record, until it was broken by Wang Beixing, November 2013.
Yu started to dominate the 500 m race when the World Cup circuit began again in fall 2011. Each time she won by a margin of over 0.4 seconds, Yu was victorious in both races. She also won the 500 m races in Heerenveen, but missed the second meeting in Astana. She also took second in the 1000m.
Her second season at the top was less successful than her first. She struggled to replicate the World Cup results and was not even close to the podium at the end. Yu placed 6th at the 2010 World Sprint Championships held in Obihiro. Yu was also a representative of China at the 2010 Winter Olympics, Vancouver. However, he finished 32nd in 1000 m.

After winning a gold medal and a bronze at Asian Championships 2008, Yu Jing made her World Cup debut in Changchun. Yu Jing won her first World Cup victory at Nagano in the 500 m and finished second in the 1000m. She also took home a bronze medal during the 2009 World Sprint Championships. She raced well throughout the rest of the season and earned multiple podium positions in the World Cup. However, there were no further victories. Yu finished 5th in 500 m, 9th in 1000 m, and 12th respectively in the World Cup total.
Yu was a force to reckon with in the 2010-11 season. She reached the podium three times at the 500m World Cup stops in Changchun in December 2010 and Obihiro, in December 2010. Yu decided not to participate in the World Cup anymore to focus on the 2011 Asian Winter Games, Astana at the end of January 2011. She won the gold medal in 500 m, beating Wang Beixing, Lee Sang-hwa.
