He was a solo artist and enjoyed a much greater career, performing in the Maghreb, in many European capitals, and achieving international success, especially in France. His greatest success was his song “Lili Twili”, which (translations: my night is very long) was covered by Boney M., a German band. It was featured in their song Children of “Children of Paradise”. This song earned him a Golden Record and he performed at the Olympia in 1985 as a solo artist.
He had a brief role in 1980. His film career was successful in the 1990s, especially after Ahmed Boulane, a Moroccan casting director, offered him roles in Moroccan and international films. Boulane’s first feature film, Ali, Rabia et les autres, in 2000, helped Younes Megri rise to stardom as a prominent actor in Moroccan films. Megri was also a part of many Moroccan television serials.

Younes Megri, a child of an artist family, began singing and playing the guitar when he was just a young boy. His father was an accomplished musician and painter, and his mother sang in a religious band. His brothers and sisters played guitar, and his sister was a singer. The family moved to Rabat in 1960. He studied music at the Moroccan National Conservatory of Music, Rabat, and at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Malesherbe, Paris.
He joined Les Freres Megri, a singing group made up of three brothers, Mahmoud, Hassan and Younes Megri and their sister Jalila Megri. Younes was their youngest member. Les Freres Megri issued the 1974 album Younes et Mahmoud (Arabic : ywns w mHmwd mkry ), which was a collaboration between brothers Younes and Mahmoud. The second album, Younes, Hassan and Mahmoud, was also released in the same year. It was a collaboration of all three brothers.
During the 1990s, he also began to compose film music for Moroccan and international films, most notably Gabriel Axel’s “Leila la pure” and “8MM” for which he worked with Michael Dana as a consultant.
