Yoshio Sawai, Ze Jing Qi Fu / Sawai Yoshio was born March 14, 1977 in Toyohashi (Aichi Prefecture), Japan. He is best known for his Japanese gag manga series Bobobo–bo Bo–bobo and its sequel Shinsetsu Bobobo–bo Bo–bobo. Both serialized on Weekly Shonen Jump. Between 2003 and 2005, Bobobo-bo Bobobo was made into an anime series of 76 episodes by the Toei Animation Studio.
Sawai was featured in Weekly Shonen Jump and drew one-shot manga like Mutekiman or Fierce! Rock Paper Scissors Island! All of these manga have a gag element, often using humor and visual gags. Sawai started to experiment with different concepts about characters who fight with strange bodily functions not long after he began working for Shonen Jump. He included a hero who battled with farts, and a poop-headed protagonist. The Fist of the North Star parody of a strange, afro-haired character who fought against the “Hair Hunters” by using his nose hairs in a postapocalyptic society was his most successful. Bobobo-bo Bobobo was the character and story. Sawai expanded the definition of Bobobo over several one-shots and introduced other characters such as damsel in distress Beauty, Gunkan (Captain Battleship), Heppokomaru, a rival fart fighter (Gasser), as well as Don Patch, a star-shaped creature and fellow “Hajikelist”. Bo-bobo was made a weekly series after the success of these one-shots. It lasted for a long time and had a successful run to its end in 2007.
