Yonas Kifle is one of the most popular and richest Marathon Runner who was born on November 5, 1977 in Eritrea. Yonas Andebrhan, a Eritrean runner, was born 5 November 1977. He is a specialist in running the 10,000m, marathon and cross-country. He represented Eritrea at four Olympics, in 2000 and 2008 as well as 2008. He has also competed at the World Championship level in cross-country, road running and indoor and outdoor track.

Kifle tried his first Olympic marathon at 2008 Beijing Games but was only able to finish 36th overall. Kifle finished the 2009 London Marathon in 2:08.28, placing seventh for the second consecutive year. He participated in the marathon at 2009 World Championships in Athletics. He was in contention for the 30km, but he pulled out shortly after and didn’t finish the race.

He was bronze medallist in half-marathon at the 2007 All-Africa Games as well as the 2005 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. His personal records include 59:30 minutes in the half-marathon and 2:07.34 hours in the marathon (an Eritrean Record).

Kifle suffered an injury in 2003, but he returned to the track in 2004, with a top ten finish in the 2004 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He also made a second Olympic appearance, placing 16th in the 10,000m final at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Kifle finished eleventh in the 10,000m at 2005 World Championships in Athletics. He also won his first major medal, a third-place finish in the 2005 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. He was in the top ten at the 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships as well as the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships. He ran some of his finest half-marathon performances in 2007. He ran at the 2010 London Marathon and finished in ninth place with a time of 2:14:39, behind compatriot Zersenay Tadese. Kifle was chosen to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, but he failed to finish the men’s marathon race. He ran his best time since 2009 at the 2012 Seoul International Marathon (2:08:51) and he was the only non-Kenyan runner to feature in the top ten. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he finished in 58th place.
