Yogesh Golwalkar is one of the most popular and richest Indian cricketer who was born on February 13, 1980 in India. Golwalkar began playing first-class cricket in 1999-2000 with Madhya Pradesh, where he spent most of his career. His first match was in the 2000-1 Ranji Trophy where the team reached quarter-finals. He played very little in his first two seasons. However, he helped Madhya Pradesh reach the Plate semi-finals during the 2002-03 season. They finished second the following year.
British County Experience – Golwalkar was an overseas professional who played for many years in the UK. He picked up more than 90 wickets for Atherton Cricket Club, Lancashire in his first season. After that, he continued to play as a professional cricketer. Middlesex County Cricket Club UK invited Golwalkar (NZ) to play overseas professionally. Golwalkar performed exceptionally in his debut match against Kent, picking up 6 wickets. Then, he took a few wickets against Surrey at Oval. This helped Middlesex CCC to relinquish Surrey after 126 year. Mark Ramprakash’s book mentions Golwalkar, and how Scott Newman was relegated to Surrey by Golwalkar. Durham County Cricket Club UK called him to speak to their Academy coaches about how to coach leg spin bowling at the start of 2013. He played in 2013 for Hall Bower CC, Yorkshire. His best figure 8 was for 32 runs in an innings. In the Pepsi India Premier League 2015 auction at Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab signed him.
Madhya Pradesh reached the Elite Group of Ranji Trophy in the 2004-05 season. Golwalkar’s performances led to Golwalkar being recruited to Middlesex County Cricket Club. In his debut match at Lord’s against Kent, he took six wickets. After only a few matches, he returned to India and played consistently for Madhya Pradesh. He also helped them reach the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy 2006. He played for Madhya Pradesh through the 2008-09 season and then moved to UK to complete an MBA at Bradford University School of Management UK.

Golwalkar’s performance in domestic Ranji Trophy was exceptional after the 2003-04 season. He scored his first 10 wickets against Orissa in the semifinal and then 5 against Maharashtra at the Ranji Trophy Finals. He was selected for the India-A Tour of Zimbabwe & Kenya (2004) with M S Dhoni and Dinesh Karathik, Akash Chopra, Rohan Gavaskar, and Akash Chopra. Before returning to India for the next cricket season, he played for the India A cricket team. Golwalkar returned from India-A touring and was selected to play against Mumbai at the Irani Trophy (2004). He bowled well, helping his team beat Ranji champions in Mohali in September 2004.
Golwalkar led Madhya Pradesh’s under-25 Cricket team to their first ever ‘National Championship title’. This was the first time in Madhya Pradesh Cricket history that they had become national champions in the longer format after the Holkar Team, which was under the direction of legend C K Naidu. Golwalkar’s matured, strategic and astute leadership was key to their win over the top teams, including favorites like Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Mumbai in this Under-25 BCCI tournament.
In 2018, Andhra Cricket Association invited him as a specialist spin bowling consultant to work with their spinners and share his experience. At present, Golwalkar is working as a member of Cricket Committee (CAC: 2019-2022) for Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association which has responsibility for appointment and evaluation/review of all coaches, coaching requirements, selection committees and support staff for various state teams.
