Yasna Provoste campillay, a Chilean teacher who was born December 16, 1969, is a Christian Democrat politician. She is currently a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies of Chile and represents District 6 of Atacama Region of northern Chile. She was the Minister of Education in 2008 and became the first minister to be impeached at Congress since 1990, when democracy had returned.

The Office of the General Auditor of the Republic in February 2008 reported that approximately US$500,000,000 was transferred by the Education Ministry from 2004 to 2008. It also revealed that close to US$600K had been illegally transferred by an accountant at the Ministry’s Santiago Regional Office, to private school managers and their families. Reports of financial mismanagement were also reported. There was also duplicate enrollment of thousands.

Provoste was charged by the opposition with not rectifying these irregularities. She was impeached by the Chamber of Deputies (violation of article 52 number 2, letter B of the Constitution) as minister of Education on April 3, 2008. Provoste was then suspended from her position. On April 15, 2008, the Senate heard Provoste’s case and voted to convict her on one of five charges. She was immediately fired from her position and disqualified for five years.
