Yannis Stournaras is one of the most popular and richest Economist who was born on December 10, 1956 in Athens, Attica, Greece. Yannis (or Giannis) Stournaras, (Greek : Giannes Stournaras; born 10/12/1956), is a Greek economist and has been the Governor of Bank of Greece since June 2014.
From 1994 to July 2000, Stournaras was Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. He was responsible for the formulation of Greece’s macroeconomic policies in the lead-up to Greece joining the European Monetary Union (Eurozone). He also consulted with international and supranational organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission.
Stournaras was a professor of economics in the University of Athens since 1989. He is also the director of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research, a think tank in Greece.

Stournaras earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Athens, in economics, in 1978. In 1980, Stournaras received his Master’s (MPhil) degree and his doctorate (DPhil), respectively, in economic theory.
Stournaras was a researcher and lecturer at St Catherine’s College in Oxford and a fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. From 1986 to 1989, he was a special adviser to the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Greece, and the Ministry of Finance again between 1994 and 2000.
Previously, he had been the Greek Minister of Finance from 5 July 2012 serving until 10 June 2014. As every Governor of an IMF member country, he is on the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund.
