Yann Perreau, a Canadian singer-songwriter who was born in 1976 and specializes in rock- electro. He was a member, between 1994 and 1999, of Doc et les Chirurgiens before becoming a solo artist.

The album Western Romance, his debut solo album, was released on November 2, 2002 by FouleSpin Musique. It featured songs written with Fredric Gary. He was a regular performer at a variety of festivals and won the Rapsat-Lelievre award at the Francofolies de spa in Belgium. He also received the Miroir de l’artiste d’ici award at Festival d’ete de Montreal.

In 2007, he returned to the stage with the show Perreau et la Lune It was later released as a DVD Perreau et la lune live au Quat’Sous by Bonsound Records. His album Un serpent sous les fleurs released by Bonsound Records in 2009 was nominated for Best francophone album during the 2010 Juno Awards, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammies.

Yann Perreau continued to be a professional actor and he played the role of marionette in Les quatre saisons de Picot, a youth theatre show by Gilles Vigneault for four seasons. Through a tour organized by the Office français- quebecois pour la jeunesse, he also participated in events in France and Quebec. He returned to Quebec and appeared at the Coup de coeur francophone 2001 music festival. He also collaborated with Gilles Brisebois. He was a member of the theatre group Vichama in Peru and composed the music for Casa Loma: Journal de Bord.

He joined guitarist David Blais on guitar and drummer Steve Cournoyer on drums to form Doc et les Chirurgiens at the age of 18. The band is based in Lanaudiere (Quebec), but has enjoyed success across all provinces. The trio won the Cegeps Rock Quebec competition and L’Empire des futures stars in 1994. They were then signed to Disquebec. The band has released two albums in the five years it’s been around. On Quebec radio stations, the single “Shake Your Fire Maker”, from their album 13, was a huge success. After a farewell concert at Musee Juste pour rire, Disquebec closed its doors in 1997. The band continued to perform for a time before announcing their disbandment in 1999.

Yann Perreau was raised in a musical family. His parents owned a bar where many famous names performed. In 1994, he participated in a Cegeps en spectacle high school competition.

His second album Nucléaire was in April 2005 with two singles “La vie n’est pas qu’une salope” and “Guerrière” receiving airplay and in the same year was invited on the “Carte Blanche” show by Alain Bashung at the FrancoFolies de Montréal. In 2006, he won the Bourse Rideau.
