Yang Hak-seon is one of the most popular and richest Artistic Gymnast who was born on December 6, 1992 in Seoul, South Korea. Yang Hak-seon, Korean: yanghagseon / Hanja: Liang He Shan — born 6/12/92) is a South Korean artistic gymnast that specializes in vault. He is the first South Korean gymnast ever to win an Olympic medal.
The 2017-2020 Code of Points reflects the difficulty. Yang shares the honor with Ri Se Gwang of North Korea and Kenzo Shirai of Japan for possessing at least one of five skills with the highest D score of 6.0 in men’s vault. The Yang Hak Seon vault is a front-handspring (forwards), family vault. It differs from all Shirai vaults that are round-off [backward] entry families. The Yang Hak Seon 2 has a straight-entry Tsukahara and 3 1/2 twist or a Kasamatsu with 2 1/2 twist. Yang currently has two, Ri two, and Shirai one. Although some people may use Yang’s surname to refer to the Yang Hak Seon vaults, this is not accurate. Yang’s surname is not listed at the end of Korean or Chinese names. Therefore, Yang must use his entire name in customary order to officially name any skill he invented. While a gymnast may be officially given naming credit for a skill it is more common to not use that name in practice. This is due to the increasing number of eponymous skill across all events of MAG and identical corresponding skils of WAG. Official second names would also be given. Additionally, eponymous names are becoming more confusing for non- experts in the field. Technical abbreviations are often used to describe certain skills, so they can be understood more easily by everyone. The Yang Hak Seon 2 is often called “Tsukahara3 1/2”, as it is easier to recognize. The “2 1/2 -twisting Yurchenko”, also known as the Shewfelt, for MAG, and Amanar, for WAG, have two official names. This latter skill is more common in practice and has caused confusion depending on the situation.
Yang was the reigning world vault champion. He won gold at the Antwerp and Tokyo World Championships in 2013. After qualifying in the first place, Yang fell on his vaults at the 2014 World Championships, Nanning, China. Ri Se Gwang from North Korea won the gold medal without any worthy competition. He used two top then6.4 difficulty vaults named after him: the Ri Se Gwang, a full-twisting double Tsukahara, and the Ri Se Gwang 2, a double front piked with 1/2 twist. Yang was just one point behind Yang. Injury meant that he was unable to defend his Olympic title in Rio de Janeiro at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Yang was “qualified” (Q), in the vault final at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, Montreal, Canada. However, he pulled out because of a hamstring injury sustained during qualification. Kenzo Shirai from Japan won the world individual vault title unassisted and without resistance. He scored 14.900, which was 0.001 more than vault’s 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Ihor Radivilov (Ukraine).

Yang finished fourth in the 2010 World Championships in Rotterdam’s individual vault final. He just missed out on medaling. Yang would go on to become vault champion at both the 2010 Asian Games in Tokyo and the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Tokyo, Japan. He won the London vault competition, becoming the first Korean gymnast with Olympic gold in gymnastics. He won gold in vault at 2013 Summer Universiade Kazan, Russia. The Yang Hak Seon is one of the most difficult vaults in gymnastics. It involves a front handspring and three twists off in a layout. It was first unveiled in the 2011 World Championships individual vault final. The vault initially had a difficulty score of 7.4 under the 2009-2012 Code of Points. Since then, the difficulty score of the Yang Hak Seon was adjusted at the start of each quad. It was initially reduced to 6.4 under 2012-2016 COP and is now higher to 6.0 under 2017-2020 COP. International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), regularly revises and adjusts D scores (typically down), due to steady improvement in general skill levels in gymnastics. Vault is the only apparatus that has this, simply because it uses numeric representations instead of alphabetical. Yang is also said to be working on another difficult vault. However, this one is a sideways entrance.
Yang Gwan-gwon’s parents were Ki Suk-hyang and Yang Gwan-gwon. Their poor family lived in Gwangju’s shantytowns before moving to North Jeolla Province’s Gochang in South Korea’s countryside in 2010 after their father, a contractor, was seriously injured. His family lives in a converted greenhouse made from PVC pipes. Yang provided a modest income through the Korea Gymnastic Association for Yang’s family after his father was fired. Cho Sung-doe, Yang’s coach, admitted that he was not aware of the family’s financial predicament before Yang won the gold.
At the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, Yang had qualified for the individual vault event final in first place, but finished eighth after falling out of the first vault—his own the Yang Hak Seon on vault, or front handspring (layout) triple twist—as well as incurring a 0.300 penalty for stepping out-of-bounds because of that.
