Yane Yanev, (Bulgarian: Iane Ianev, 22 April 1971) was a Bulgarian politician, leader and member of the centre-right opposition party Order, Law and Justice. He is also a member the Bulgarian National Assembly. Yanev, a “anti-corruptionhawk”, is one of the most prominent political figures to have emerged in Bulgaria over the past decade. Yanev’s stated political mission is to adopt a new constitution that will replace the one adopted in 1990, after the fall of the communist regime. Yanev stated that only such a “far reaching and radical change” would allow Bulgaria to end its transition from communism into a law-abiding democratic society. A Bulgarian-Israeli team took over security 24 hours a day for Yane Yanev’s life after he was repeatedly threatened with his health and safety.
Yanev was raised in a family that has been involved in agrarian politics. In his third year of university, he became a member the National Alliance – Bulgarian Agricultural People’s Union and chairman of its advisory board to parliament. Yanev rose to prominence in the party, and was highly sought-after by Ivan Kostov when he became Prime Minister of Bulgaria in 1997. Yanev was forced to resign from politics after he declined offers for positions in government. Yanev was then appointed Chairman of Kustendilski Plod’s Board of Directors. He was elected party chairman in 2000 after he had returned to politics through the Agricultural People’s Union. In the first years of the decade, he rose to national prominence by making public the fact that the former King had abused the power of Prime Minister (2001-2005), by privatizing state property previously owned by his family prior to the overthrow in 1946. Yanev also investigated the abuses committed by Milen Velchev, King’s Minister for Finance. Yanev was responsible for the transformation of the party to Order, Law and Justice in 2005. He also held the position of Secretary General, in charge of overall organization, while Georgi Markov, a former constitutional judge, assumed the title of chairman. Markov was unable to achieve significant electoral gains in 2006’s presidential elections. Yanev took over the chairmanship and unified both the posts.
Yanev made the announcement that he would marry by the end 2010 in a live interview on “Ivan & Andrei”, a popular talk-show.

Yanev was born in Sandanski in southwest Bulgaria, a town known for its pleasant climate and resorts. He is the son of Georgi Yanev, and the grandson of Yane Yanev, in whose honour he was born. Both are resistance leaders to communism. For 11 years, his grandfather was Malak Tzalin’s mayor. Yanev was educated at the Sandanski school and graduated in 1994 from the Agricultural University of Plovdiv with a degree of Agro-Engineering. From 1992 to 1995, he also completed a master’s in Economics and Management at the University of Plovdiv. He was involved in student politics during his student years and was an Independent member of the Students National Organization.
Yanev, a Blagoevgrad region resident, was elected to the 40th National Assembly in June 2005. He was also a member of two committees: Environment and Water. Yanev was elected to the 41st National Assembly in July 2009. He currently serves as Chairman of the Bulgaria-Israel Friendship Committee. He was also Chairperson of The Anti-Corruption Conflict of Interests, Parliamentary Ethics Committee from July 2009 to December 2009. He is also a member of Control Committee of State Agency for National Security and a member of Advisory Board on National Security for the President of Republic.
