Her most significant innovation in fashion during 2009 was what’s known as “Transformable Fashion,” that is, women’s clothing designed to be worn a variety of different ways. In her own words she said, “I was running out of clothes. So I repurposed what we had. Then I thought, what if I made original designs with that transformability in mind?” Valero was able to create a wide range consisting of Transformable Fashion women’s outfits that can be worn in many ways.

In the latter part of 2007 she relocated in the late 2007 to Los Angeles, where she has her own showroom and workshop. Between 2007 and 2008 she was a guest at several Fashion Week shows around Latin America and in the US and was awarded the International Award for Designer of the Year for excellence in evening wear Wear at Miami’s Fashion Week. The 14th of October, 2008 she was selected as one of the 15 participants in the 2008 Tijuana’s Hall of Fame, at the Canaco (National Chamber of Commerce) chosen by the Tijuana’s image committee that is headed by Tijuana’s tycoon, Jose Galicot Behar.

Ximena Valero was born Jimena del Carmen Valero Jarillo , in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico to Carmen Jarillo-Yanez an educator at school, as well as a housewife as well as Jose L. Valero, M.D. a plastic surgeon. The family of Ximena’s parents relocated from Tijuana, Mexico in 1982. She began studying fashion during her summer break when she was just 8 years old. It was under her mother’s encouragement that she started to take fashion and couture classes. From that point on fashion design became to be her main interest and eventually led her to be an instructor of fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in nearby San Diego, at the age of 17.

Her first designs for women’s clothes were created in her first design workshop in Tijuana in the latter part of the 1990s. In 1999 she was offered an internship with a salary in the department of design at Victoria’s Secret & Limited Brands by Victoria Secret’s CEO Grace Nichols. Following her internship, she began her career as a freelance designer in New York as a free-lance fashion designer. In the beginning of 2006, she returned to Tijuana, San Diego. In the two years that followed she came up with new designs that incorporated Frida Kalhlo’s style into her clothing designs and also created shoes for women and pet clothing.
