Xie Jun is one of the most popular and richest Chess Player who was born on October 30, 1970 in Baoding, China. Though she was birthed from Baoding, Hebei in 1970 and was raised in Beijing which is the family home for Xie along with her family is Liaoyuan, Jilin. When she was six years old, Xie began playing Chinese chess. By the age of 10 , she was the xiangqi champion for girls of Beijing. As a result of the authorities from the government, she was competing in the international game of chess. In spite of limited opportunities to train, Xie became the Chinese girls’ champ in the year 1984. In 1988, she was tied for second-fourth place during the International Junior Girls’ Championship held in Adelaide.

A legend In China, Xie became widely recognized for her enthusiasm and a dazzling style of attack. Her achievements helped increase the popularity of international chess within her country and throughout across Asia. Xie Jun was the first of talented Chinese female players, including Zhu Chen, Xu Yuhua as well as Wang Lei. She was also a key element in China’s Chinese female team that won the silver medal in the 1998 Chess Olympiad in Elista in Kalmykia, Russia.

In July 2004, she was awarded the titles of International Arbiter and FIDE Senior Trainer. In April 2019, Xie Jun was appointed as the new president of the Chinese Chess Association.

At the age 20 Xie gained the right to compete for the title of world champion women In 1991, she beat Maya Chiburdanidze of Georgia, who held the title since in a match that ended with 8 1/2 6 1/2 . In 1993, she was able to defend the title she held with Nana Ioseliani (winning the match 8 1/2 2 1/2 ). In the summer of 1994, she was granted the title of Grandmaster. She fell in at the 1995 Women’s World Chess Championship to Susan Polgar of Hungary (8 1/2 4 1/2 ) however, she was able to regain the title in 1999 after defeating another finalist from the championship, Alisa Galliamova (8 1/2 6 1/2 ) after Polgar refused to agree to the match’s conditions and was stripped of her title. The year 2000 saw FIDE modified the rules of their world championship, switching to a knock-out method, and Xie was crowned champion again and beat her fellow Chinese participant Qin Kanying 2 1/2 -1 1/2 in the final.

Xie Jun (born 30th October 1970) is a Chinese grandmaster of chess. She held two different reigns as the Women’s World Chess Champion, from 1991 until 1996, and then from 1999 until 2001. Xie is among three women to have at the least two different reigns, in addition to Elisaveta Bykova, and Hou Yifan. Xie Jun is currently the President of the Chinese Chess Association.

In the late 90s Xie had begun to study for an advanced degree on psychology in Beijing Normal University. In in 2008 Xie Jun directed an agency in the Beijing region, which was responsible for Chess and Go talent. She is engaged with her trainer Wu Shaobin.

In Guangzhou in April 2000, Women’s Champion Xie played a match with former World Champion Anatoly Karpov. Billed as a “female vs. male chess contest”, the match consisted of four games at normal time controls and two rapid games. The four-game portion was won by Karpov 2½–1½ (1 win, 3 draws), and the rapid- play portion also went to Karpov, 1½–½ (1 win, 1 draw).
