Minicozzi II for their outstanding research in the field of minimal surface. In a series of articles, they have proposed a theory of structure for minimal surfaces using Bounded Genus in 3-manifolds that provides a stunning global view of the arbitrary minima of the bounded genus. This work led to the solution of long-standing theories and triggered a wave of breakthrough findings.

In 2012 he became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.

Minicozzi was appointed Minicozzi was named the J. J. Sylvester Professor of Mathematics of Johns Hopkins in 2002, and was later appointed Krieger- Eisenhower professor at the university. He began to focus on surfaces with minimal dimensions, and continued to collaborate in collaboration with Tobias Colding. In 2012, he was accepted into MIT as professor of mathematics.

Minicozzi completed his studies at Princeton University in 1990 and was awarded the Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1994 under the supervision under the direction of Richard Schoen. After graduation, he worked for an entire time at the Courant Institute of New York University as a guest member in which he started working alongside Tobias Colding on harmonic functions on Riemannian manifolds. His work received an invitation to speak in the Geometry Festival. The year 1995 was the first time he was accepted to Johns Hopkins University, with an National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellowship.

He won a Sloan Fellowship in 1998. He was invited to speak on his research in 2006 at the ICM in Madrid and also an address at the London Mathematical Society Spitalfields Lecture in 2007 and the thirty-fiveth University of Arkansas Spring Lecture Series in 2010 and also an AMS invited talk in Syracuse in 2010.
