Willem B. Drees is one of the most popular and richest Philosopher who was born on April 20, 1954 in Netherlands. Drees was born in the Hague on the 20th of April in 1954. He was the fifth child, and the sole child of Willem Drees jr (1922-1998) and Anna Erica Drees Gescher (1922-1988). The paternal grandparent of his father Willem Drees was the prime minister of the Netherlands from 1948 to 1958. He was also his father’s Netherlands politician and was the party’s leader in the Democratic Socialists ’70 from 1971 until 1977.
As Vice President for Interdisciplinary Affairs at IRAS, Drees has participated in the discussions that shaped Religious Naturalism and helped organize an event about Human Meaning in a Technological Culture (2001). Regarding his position on this new view of the world, Drees, says of himself:
Drees is a past-president of the European Society for the Study of Science and Theology (ESSSAT). According to Tillburg University, Drees “was also dean of the Faculty of Theology and vice-dean of the Faculty of Humanities.” As of 1 November 2014, he is a professor of philosophy within the Tilburg School of Humanities.
William A. Rottschaefer argues that Drees’s naturalism is seriously flawed claiming that it is both methodologically and epistemologically naturalistic. Drees maintains while rejecting both of these that ontological naturalism offers the best account of the natural world. It also provides for a supernaturalistic understanding of religion and theology. Although naturalism is often considered to be antithetical to theology and genuine religion, Drees proposes a scientifically informed account of religion, which, he contends, is not only compatible with supernaturalism and theology but provides a better account of both.
Drees analyzed Cosmology limit questions through the analysis of the explicatory results of science. Drees’s second Fulbright grant led to the book Religion, Science and Naturalism (1996). John H. Brooke, historian of religion and science, wrote a critical review of the research conducted by the Oxford theologian Keith Ward and Drees’s book: “Because he is as confident in his epistemology as he is in his understanding of theoretical physics Willem Drees should be read by all those who have an academic fascination with the debates that surround “science and religion”. Drees’s argumentation is not condensed into short snippets of sound, which is what makes them so powerful.” The study of naturalism in his book Religious Naturalism and Science has continued to be a central part of Drees’s work. He also has paid to the importance of his analysis of naturalism to the study of human nature. This is evident in 2 edited books on the subject of anthropology as well as physicalism that is not reductive in Dutch and another written in English (2000).
