Wes Madiko (born on January 15, 1964) is better known by his stage name Wes is a Cameroonian musician from Cameroon. Most likely, he is most well-known by Western fans because of “In Youpendi”, a track taken from The Lion King II soundtrack in addition to his collaborations together with Deep Forest and his own 1997 smash “Alane” produced by Michel Sanchez.
In 1992, Wes went across the US and released his album “Sun of Ancestors”. On the tour, he performed shows at Atlanta, Georgia. At this time, Wes also got to know Michel Sanchez of Deep Forest and became the lead singer from Deep Forest, after that they immediately began forming an artistic partnership, and began working on their album Welenga which translates to “Universal Conscience”. In the year 1996 Wes joined Sony Music France to release Welenga. So Wes was one of the initial stars in the band Deep Forest earning a Grammy Award.
In 2002, Paramount Pictures invited Wes to perform in the movie The Wild Thornberry, and his song Awa Awa was on the soundtrack. This song was also included in the soundtrack for the episode Falsche Partner of the German series Ein Fall für zwei. Alane was used in the German films Zahn um Zahn and Aus heiterem Himmel. As of 2007, Wes is working on a new Biography and spiritual book. He is also about to release a new album.
At the end of 2010, Wes Madiko returned to his musical roots and joined forces with music producer Paul Kwitek. This project is a creation of an album that will be accompanied by a book written by Wes.
In 1988 the group Fakol together with Benjamin Valfroy and Jo Sene was formed. Fakol performed in the Netherlands and different countries throughout Europe. In addition to his musical activities, Wes started to develop his involvement with social services. The school he visited was Lille and also was involved with children. Wes enjoyed sharing the wisdom of elephants as well as the long-standing background of Africa.

In 1974 aged 10 years old, Madiko became the conductor of the group Kwa Kwassi meaning “think right”. This group of musicians was a way to bring together the most talented young people in the village which received education in art and history.
In 1987, again, Wes started to enjoy an evening of music on in the Wouri riverbanks. He was eager to reconnect to the Mouataba spirit and to spread the bafoun-bantou traditions and returned to the ancestral home of his ancestral ancestors. He restored his Kwa Kwassi Orchestra and went on a tour of Bafoun country. Tourists showed up and were all in awe of the music which included a young lady of Lille, France. Then Wes headed off to Europe and carried his kalimba in his arms.
He gave concerts in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, in Japan, Hungary, Poland, and Prague. The French TV channel TF1 called Alane the summer song of the year
- From 1997 on Wes performed a G7 concert with Deep Forest in Lyon, France, and is known as a multitalented artist whose music enriches the world, as well for his humanuity as an individual concerned with the plight of children and those less fortunate in the world. Wes is the first African artist with a recording going diamond. At the 10th Anniversary of the World Music Awards in Monaco, presided over by Prince Albert, Wes received the Award for best record sale of the year by an African artist (6 May 1998). In the same year he performed I love Football for the FIFA World Cup in France.
