Casares is the oldest of four children from an ancestry of sheep ranchers from Patagonia, Argentina. At the time of High School, Casares earned a Rotary Club scholarship while an exchange student from Washington, Pennsylvania. He then returned back to Buenos Aires to study business administration for three years at the University of San Andres and quit to establish the first Internet Service provider, Internet Argentina S.A. in 1994.
