Wei has been awarded four times in the BWF World Championships without “striking gold”. She won a silver medal with Zhang Jiewen back in 2001, an honorable mention by Zhao Tingting in 2003, an honorable mention in 2006 with Zhang Yawen in 2006, and a bronze medal with Zhang Yawen in 2007. She was fourth in the 2004 Olympics in Athens with Zhao Tingting. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics Wei and Zhang Yawen were beaten in the semifinals by a different Chinese team, Du Jing and Yu Yang who won the silver medal. Wei and Zhang were awarded the bronze medal after defeating Japanese’s Miyuki Maeda, and Satoko Suetsuna in the final in the third position.

In 2008, Wei retired from the national team. However, she was still playing a year later by partnering with Gao Ling. They lost to Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen in the Thailand Open final of 2009, but won the Philippines Open of 2009.
