He was selected with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the third round of the 1989 CFL Draft. He played in the amateur league of the Thunder Bay Giants of the Canadian Junior Football League. Drinkwalter was also a part of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Drinkwalter was a player in his final season with the BC Lions in 1997.
