Pieter Jan Herman Fredrik (Wam) Kat (born 23. November 1956in Zeist) is a Dutch writer and political activist who lives in Germany and is a member of the city’s government of Belzig.

Wam founded The European Youth Environmental Network EYFA (European For(est) Action). For(est) Action) in 1986 to combat the impact of acid rains on regional forests. Wam was key to the rapid growth of the organization . He was the primary organizer of the annual summer festival/university dubbed Ecotopia that first took place in Cologne, Germany in 1989 and then moved each year to a different location in the world. Wam also came up with an “Eco Rate” system which EYFA as well as other progressive organizations employed to ensure equal access to merchandise and events through. The Eco rates utilized the non- market currency system of conversation to ensure that those from less developed countries could enjoy better exchange rates as compared to those from countries with higher incomes.

After leaving Croatia, Wam moved end 1995 to ZEGG intentional community outside of Berlin in Belzig in the Fläming region where he lived and worked for a number of years. In Belzig he started the so-called “Info-Cafe Der Winkel” (a center for Tolerance and better understanding of different Cultures), which became known as one of Germans best examples of local actions against right-wing violence. Between 1999 and 2001 he shortly moved back to the Balkan, there he was co-founder of Balkan Sunflowers, which still works in Albania, Kosovo and the Republic of Macedonia.

In July 2008, he published a political cookbook in Germany, called “24 Rezepte zur kulinarischen Weltverbesserung” which is roughly translated to “24 recipes for culinary world improvement.”

In 1982, Wam was featured in an 1982 Dutch documentary written by Hans Fels named: Donkere wolken boven Het Paradijs Het present (Dark skies over heaven: the Sacrifice) and told the story of his plan to commit suicide in protest to nuclear power stations, by burning himself in the middle of Amsterdam however, he got distracted.
