Walter Micallef is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on October 24, 1955 in Birkirkara, Malta. Walter Micallef (born 24 October 1955) is a prominent Maltese music producer and singer. He was from the middle Maltese town Birkirkara. He has written well over 100 tracks in Maltese.
He was a child in Birkirkara in the years when his family’s house was taken by the state to create an public convenience.Three of his previous songs which are all unreleased include “Gewwa Marsalforn” (In Marsalforn), “Ergajt Sejjer Marsalforn” (“Going back to Marsalforn”) and “Xaghar Iswed” (“Black Hair”). Both of them are performed on the reggae beat and only played by him in Valletta during 2004 as well Xewkija, Gozo in 2005. The track, Xaghar Iswed was composed at the age of 17 when Micallef was aged. An exact translation from a stanza from Xaghar Iswed written in 1972, reads:
On 23 March 2007, he released his second album, Ħamsin (Fifty) [2] to a packed house at the Powerhouse Theatre [3], Valletta Waterfront in Floriana. His modern folk sextet includes WOMAD performer Renzo Spiteri on percussion, Eric Wadge on bass, Pawlu Camilleri ‘l-Bibi’ on harmonica, Albert Garzia on accordion and piano, and Jes Psaila on acoustic, semi-acoustic and electric guitars. Ħamsin includes twelve tracks, with thematic content ranging from romantic songs such as “Wara l-Ħajt” (Behind the Wall) and “Min Hi?” (Who is She?) to pro-environmental songs like “L-Aħħar Sekondi” (The Final Seconds) and “Lil Malta” (“A Song for Malta”). On 6 May 2007 the album was at the top of the D’Amato Music Best 20 Malta hit parade.
On the 18th of March, 2004 he unveiled his Walter Micallef u . l. Hbieb group, which included Etnika’s double-bassist Oliver DeGabriele, as Malta’s representative at the UNESCO Suisse charity event One World Beat [11. The event is followed by four performances during July 2004, at the St. James Cavalier Arts Centre in Valletta which featured his current group of sextets. Micallef appeared on German TV channels ZDF as well as Bayerisches Fernsehen, as well as a number of regions’ French stations. Micallef was nominated to be the Best Male Artist at the 2004 Malta Music Awards, and continues to earn accolades and praise for his songs and lyrics. Micallef received the Julian Manduca Cultural Award in July 2006 for his incisive environmental songs, which aim to raise awareness about social issues.

In Malta Today on 23 March 2001, the critic Miriam Dunn remarked that “listening to the intelligent usage he makes of the Maltese language in his work, it is difficult to imagine that some years back, he decided to switch his songwriting from the English language”. Although he’s been in the business from 1973 onward, it was only in February 2003 that he debuted his debut album, titled M’Jien Xejn (I am Not Anything) The album includes fifteen songs composed between 1981 between 2001 and 1981. “Awwissu” (“August”) is the most well-known track on the album.
He has cited the Italian Giorgio Gaber, Gino Paoli and American Jim Croce and James Taylor as his major musical influences. Graziana Axisa has played as a supporting act in a major Marsaskala concert in 2006. Axisa has sung Micallef’s song, “Għaċ-Ċkejkna” in the 2005 Għanja Tal-Poplu festival, placing a creditable second.
