In Evansville, Indiana, the 6-foot-10-inch (2.08 millimeter) McCarty played college basketball at the University of Kentucky where he was part of the team that took home the NCAA championship in 1996. In 1994, McCarty’s three-pointer led Kentucky to a 31-point victory against LSU, the biggest rally in the second half of NCAA history. He was chosen for the Knicks with the 19th overall selection during the 1996 NBA Draft.
