Born from Washington, D.C., Williams started his Maryland career just two years after the passing of the renowned Len Bias and the ensuing scandal which caused Lefty Driesell his position as coach. When Williams came to Maryland in the year 2000, the Terrapins were close to receiving severe sanctions from the NCAA for violations made by Driesell’s successor Bob Wade, that would cause his resignation. Instead of moving to a different college, Williams chose to remain at Maryland and under the their new manager Gary Williams. It was a major improvement for the coach who was forced to rebuild the program from scratch from the ground while juggling the discipline and the stricter academic requirements now being enforced on the institution. Williams was named to the Associated Press All-America Second Team as an undergraduate at Maryland in 1991-92. He averaged the school’s record 26.8 points. He also had 5.6 rectors, 3.6 assists as well as 2.1 steals. He scored at least 20 points in 19 consecutive games.
