Walis Perin is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on August 8, 1952 in Nantou, Taiwan. Walis Perin was born Nantou County on 8 August 1952. He earned an undergraduate degree in philosophy. He then earned a master’s in theology. Both degrees were earned from Fu Jen Catholic University. He was an Roman Catholic priest until 1986 in which he was awarded an office on the Nantou County Council. Prior to 2008 the time when the government gave an official statutorily recognized status for Seediq people, Seediq People, Wallis Perin was described as an Atayal.

On the 3rd of March, 2005 Wallis Perin was appointed as the minister of the Council of Indigenous Peoples, succeeding Chen Chien-nien who had quit. Under his direction the CIP came up with a revision to laws regarding indigenous autonomy, set up an institution for library and resource centers for indigenous peoples and also helped to establish an indigenous radio station and a television channel targeted at an indigenous audience. The latter was thing Walis Perin had supported since his time as a legislator. Also during his time in the CIP, the Sakizaya people sought and were granted official recognition by the government as a distinct group of the Amis. Wallis Perin left the CIP in 2007 followed by Icyang Parod.

As a legislator Walis Perin was a tireless advocate to defend aboriginal autonomy and their culture. He introduced a bill which was aimed at forming an aboriginal constitution and parliament and has also supported efforts to reduce the unemployment rate for aboriginal people. In addition to defending the rights of aboriginal people, Walis Perin has been recognized for his leadership in protests. Perin and nine others co-founded the Non-Partisan Solidarity Union in June 2004. The following month Vice-President Annette Lu commented that aboriginals weren’t the first to settle on Taiwan’s island. She also stated, “[Lu’s] suggestion that Aboriginal people are not native to Taiwan and are outsiders is disrespectful and stems from an ignorance of the culture and history of the indigenous people.” Following this incident it was suggested to have the Council of Indigenous Peoples merge with the Hakka Affairs Council and the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission. It was the CIP along with Walis Perin panned the suggestion and the merger didn’t happen. In December, when she was running for office as Non-Partisan Solidarity Union candidate, Walis Perin lost in the elections for legislative seats.

Walis Perin (born 8 August 1952) is a Seediq Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 2005 every time with an edifice of a different political party. He was an original part of the Non-Partisan Solidarity Union in 2004 after losing his reelection, he was named the Minister for the Council of Indigenous Peoples in 2005. He left the post in 2007 and has since been involved in 2 unsuccessful political campaigns in 2012 for People First Party and in 2012 with People First Party and 2016 as a member of his party, the Democratic Progressive Party. In the year 2018, Walis Perin was appointed to the Control Yuan.

Walis Perin was elected for the second Legislative Yuan as an independent in 1992. He was a candidate with the Kuomintang banner in 1995 and was elected to a second term. In the year 1998 Walis Perin resigned from the KMT to join an alliance called the Democratic Non-Partisan Alliance, but was able to keep his seat in the legislature. Walis Perin broke off his membership in the DNPA to be a candidate for reelection in 2001. In 2001, the politician became a part of in the Taiwan Number One Party, and was featured by Taiwanese press as an individual. The year 2002 saw Walis Perin along with other legislators established a caucus to represent individuals who are not part of the mainstream, and Perin was appointed the chairman.

In August 2011, Walis Perin was named a People First Party candidate for the legislature, but lost. He ran again in 2016, this time with the Democratic Progressive Party. Walis Perin declared his candidacy in May 2015. During his campaign, he alleged that other candidates were engaging in electoral fraud. Shortly after defeating Walis Perin, Chien Tung-ming was indicted on charges of vote buying. In March 2017, President Tsai Ing-wen named Walis Perin to a position on the Control Yuan. He was also appointed to a committee set up to research aboriginal property rights. During questioning by the Legislative Yuan in January 2018, Wallis Perin stated that he supported the Control Yuan’s abolition only if it was first approved by constitutional amendment and further backed by a referendum. Walis Perin was confirmed as a member of the Control Yuan on 16 January 2018, and took office immediately.
